We Can't Wait to Welcome You!

Before You Come In

We're delighted that you are considering visiting us! Below you'll find essential information to help make your experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

Studio Etiquette and Policies

1. Jewelry Costs

Titanium: $40+

Gold Jewelry: $95+

With hundreds of options available in both of our studios, please bear in mind that the cost of jewelry ranges quite a bit based on the materials and complexity of any particular piece. When you are selecting jewelry for your piercing, your jewelry specialist will always inform you of the pricing for any pieces you may be considering. (Please note that service costs are separate from jewelry costs).

2. Do You Take Walk-Ins?

All services, including jewelry purchasing, viewing, and changing, are available by appointment. We will accommodate a walk-in whenever it is possible, but if you walk into our studio during someone else's scheduled appointment time we may have to ask you to wait or return in order to receive service. We want to support you in all your piercing needs! Our appointment structure allows us to make sure that each and every client receives the standard of care that we strive to uphold at the Museum Of Living Arts.

If you're experiencing issues with a piercing, please give us a call so we can help arrange a solution promptly. You can book an appointment through the "Appointments" tab on our website or call us if you have questions.

3. What If I Can't Make My Appointment?

We require a valid credit card during our booking flow in order to uphold our studio's No-Show Policy. The only time we ever charge that card is in the event that you are unable to make your appointment and also do not make an attempt to contact us and let us know that we are able to give that time away. Life happens, we're not here to punish you when something unexpected pops up! Within 24 hours, please call the studio directly for staff assistance with canceling to avoid potential charges.

Please be aware that if you are 10 or more minutes late to your appointment, we may have to reschedule your service depending on whether or not someone has booked the time following your appointment. While we never want to turn you away or inconvenience you, we cannot intrude on time booked with another client. A little extra time should be allotted for parking when visiting our Downtown studio. Like many of the businesses in downtown Charleston, we are unable to offer dedicated parking.

4. Jewelry Handling

Please avoid handling your piercings or removing your jewelry in the studio. If you need help changing your jewelry, our piercers are happy to assist you in the procedure room in order to maintain our standards of hygiene.

5. Bringing Jewelry?

While our studio will not pierce with outside jewelry or change existing piercings to unsuitable jewelry, it's true that you can continue to use pieces purchased with us for a lifetime. If you have any questions about a piece's suitability in reference to any piercings we are more than happy to take a look at what you have as well.  Please bring any jewelry in a clean, secure container (e.g., a plastic bag or small box). Avoid placing loose jewelry on counters or glass surfaces. This helps us prevent cross-contamination in our studio!

6. Tipping

Tipping is appreciated but not expected-you are welcome to tip if you would like to show your appreciation for the service.

7. Do I Need a Physician's Consent Form?

A physician's consent form is required if you have a medical condition that could affect your piercing or healing process. Please email us if you are in need of a consent form. You can bring your completed form with you at the time of your appointment, or you can have your physician complete the form and email it to us at museumoflivingarts@gmail.com.

8. What Are the Age Requirements?

Not every piercing is appropriate to every age! Our Services Menu details the age limit for each of the piercings that we offer in their descriptions. Please note that we are unable to make exceptions to our policy where age is concerned, even with parental consent.

9. What Documents Should I Bring?

Body piercing in South Carolina is regulated by the South Carolina Department of Public Health. As such, the law requires that we collect certain identification in order to be able to perform piercings, including for minors. Below you'll find a list of I.D.'s we are allowed to accept as per South Carolina law.

  • 18 years and older: A valid (not expired) state or federally issued I.D. such as a Driver's License, Passport, or State Identification Card
  • Minors (under 18 years old): A valid state or federally issued I.D. such as a State Identification Card or Passport. Minors must have a parental guardian with their own valid (not expired) legal identification present at the time of the appointment in order to receive service. We are unable to accept Military IDs. If the last name or address for a minor do not match their consenting guardian's paperwork, a birth certificate will often suffice as secondary ID, but we are unable to accept them as a minor's main form of identification.
  • We are required by the state to prove parentage by ensuring that either the last names on the identification of a parent and minor or the addresses listed on the identification of a parent and minor match. In cases where a person other than the minor's parent has been appointed guardianship in a court of law, we are required to collect a copy of the court document stating the transference of custody to that person at the time that any piercing services are to be rendered to a minor client.
