Before you Come in

Studio Etiquette

The following guidelines are for the health, safety, and comfort of our clients and staff. Please take a minute to review these guidelines.

  • We now offer our services by appointment only.

This includes jewelry purchasing, viewing, and changing.
If you are having problems with your piercing, please call us so we can make arrangements to get you taken care of ASAP.

All other booking is done here on our website.

You may book an appointment at any of our locations by clicking on the "appointments" tab.

Feel free to call or email the studios if you have any questions or concerns before booking.

  • Wearing a mask in the studio is optional at this time.

Please note this policy may change at anytime. Call the studio if you would like to confirm our current policies. You will find some helpful information here, POST COVID-19 about what to expect when coming in.

  • Please DO NOT handle your piercings or remove your jewelry in the studio.

Our piercer on staff is always happy to assist in the changing of jewelry in the procedure room. This helps to prevent the spread of germs.

  • If you are bringing jewelry that you are not currently wearing, please bring it in a clean container, such as a plastic bag or container.

Do not set loose jewelry down on the counters, glass, or other surfaces in the studio.

  • In our industry, like any service based industry, tipping is not expected but accepted.

Physicians Consent Form

A physician's consent form is only required if:

You have any kind of medical condition that may affect the piercing, the piercing procedure, or the ability for your piercing to heal. If you feel you may have a condition that could affect your body's ability to heal, although this may not prevent you from getting the piercing, we will require that you bring in a physician's consent form for your physician to fill out.
You may email us for this form.
Please bring this in with you when you come in for your piercing. You may also have your physician fill out the form and email it to us at museumoflivingarts@gmail.com.

Please make sure the clients full name is in the subject line of the email.

Age Requirements

IF YOU ARE 18 OR OVER:

You must have a state or federally issued photo ID such as: a driver’s licence, passport, military ID, or an ID card issued by the DMV.

IF YOU ARE 14-17 YEARS OLD:
Museum of Living Arts policies require that you must have a state or federally issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or permit, passport, military ID, or an ID Card issued by the DMV.
You must have your parent or legal guardian present with you to sign paperwork and depending on the preference of the piercer, the parent or legal guardian may be required to stay through the entire procedure; you'll want to allow yourself plenty of time. Your parent or legal guardian must have a state or federally issued photo ID.

- Either your last name or address must match on the IDs.

- School IDs are currently acceptable with a birth certificate.

- For legal guardians, a court order or letter of guardianship signed by a judge is required to be present at the appointment.

IF YOU ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 13:
We only pierce earlobes ( no cartilage or other body piercings )

We do not perform body piercings on children under the age of 13.

Earlobe piercings are only done at the age of consent (minimum age is 5)

We do not pierce the earlobes of children who are not old enough to verbally consent. These piercings are done on a case by case basis and require a consultation with a piercer. This consultation can be performed any time, whether it is directly before the procedure itself, or days in advance. Whether or not we do the piercing is up to the discretion of the piercer. Because we are regulated by SCDHEC, the following requirements apply:

- The child, as well as the parent, must have a state or federally issued photo ID such as:  a passport, military ID, or an identification card issued by the DMV.

- The child must have a parent or legal guardian present to sign paper work and to be present during the procedure.

- Either the last name or address must match on the IDs.

*The rules outlined above are state law. Body piercing in SC is regulated by SCDHEC.

The following age requirements are policy at our studio:

Lobes: Ages 5 and up

Helix: Ages 13 and up

All other ear, nose and navel piercings: Ages 15 and up

All oral and other facial piercings: Ages 16 and up

All other piercings: Ages 18 and up

*Please note, we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.
